The Fine Art of Painting with Light Blog - June 2, 2012
The above slideshow features a bunch of Ben’s lightpainted photography.
Hey gang! This is for all my shutterbug readers. I’m super excited to announce the launch of Ben’s new e-book, “The Fine Art of Painting with Light.” If you’re not familiar with lightpainting, it’s a form of photography that relies on flashlights and other non-traditional sources to light a scene. It’s an incredibly unique look … one that Ben has mastered over the past several years.
The book is a comprehensive guide, starting with your very first lightpainting and moving through to advanced techniques and post-processing in Photoshop. It includes a guide to the tools required, examples of different lightpainting styles and how to achieve them and 28 real-world examples where Ben demonstrates how he created specific images.
A few pages from the e-book. (Shameless plug: I designed the whole thing)
Lightpainting is still a new thing for me, and I absolutely love it. It lets you be creative in different ways, and it’s a great way to deviate from your normal photographic style and explore something totally fresh. I’m still in the beginning stages of learning, and the image below is one of my first real lightpaintings.
One of my first lightpaintings.
If you love photography, whether you’re a hobbyist or a pro, I encourage you to experiment with lightpainting. There is a free download of sample pages from the e-book that will give you a good start. To learn more, or to snag the book, check it out HERE on Digital Mastery.
