Two weeks in Sedona Blog - October 31, 2011

After traveling historic Route 66 to Flagstaff, AZ, we parked just south of Sedona in a town called Camp Verde, AZ. Ben had to fly out to teach two of his “From Focus to Finished” seminars and Flagstaff was a convenient airport in the area. Also, I had never been to the Sedona area and wanted to explore.

If you’ve never been to the area, I’d definitely recommend checking it out… or at least taking the scenic route if you’re passing through. The 17 highway will definitely get you around faster, but 89A is a much better drive, and it connects Flagstaff, Sedona and Jerome (an awesome place I’ll talk about in an upcoming post).

While Ben was away, I spent a lot of time driving around the Sedona area, hiking and doing a bit of shooting (of course). I’ve been up to my ears lately, so I don’t have many processed images yet, but hopefully they’ll come soon. I hiked a good part of the West Fork trail, which was just beautiful. But really, everything there is beautiful. It’s fun to see the terrain change as you’re approaching Sedona, with the rock formations and red landscape.

I also visited the Montezuma Castle National Monument, which was conveniently a five-minute drive from the RV park! The “castle” was literally built into the side of a cliff by natives hundreds of years ago. It’s amazing that it still exists today.

While we were in town, we also got to meet up with Rich Charpentier, who is a photographer now based out of Prescott. What’s funny is that I had been Facebook friends with Rich for years but we had never met in person! Our interests just matched and we often corresponded in the digital world. So it was very cool to meet in person!

I also took a drove down to Phoenix for a day. I had to get my Mini serviced and even though the city was two hours away, it was the closest dealership by far. I didn’t mind though, because I got to see Lindsay! We literally grew up on the same street and have known each other since we were little kids. She’s practically like family, so it was great to meet her for dinner!

Shortly after Ben returned, we moved on and continued our drive down Route 66. More to come…
